Each year, the Blackfrost rolls over Fenris, birthing horrors and madness. The Council forged the Blackshields to stand the line and defend the village. Their most prized weapon: the Black Shard, an artifact that carves a protective sanctuary from the dark. When the shard’s weight began to break Captain Varek, he declared the First Blackshield Tournament, bringing trials of strength, leadership, courage, and wisdom. Alliances formed and betrayal struck, as the Swordmasters and Shieldbearers tested their might. At sundown on the second day, a champion stood above all: the first new bearer of the Black Shard.

this year's synopsis

Months have passed since the first Blackshield Tournament and the new bearer of the shard was chosen. Now the Blackfrost gathers on the horizon once more, daring the new recruits. Fenris is getting ready to defend their lives as the rolling darkness comes to twist their minds and whisper songs of madness and treachery.
